Growing up on Long Island, New York, my first exposure to the outdoors, specifically camping, came between 1973 and 1976 with the Cub Scouts and Webelos. In December 1975, I received my Outdoorsman award, not knowing at the time how scouting would help fuel my lifelong passion for nature, hiking, backpacking, and camping. Back in those days, I had a heavy Coleman canvas tent I would set up in the backyard, and one of those old school canteens and mess kits. It was also around this time that my family would spend a week every summer in a cabin at Baker Camp, on the shores of Lake Sebago in Harriman State Park, New York. Never much of a fisherman, I would catch something every now and again but throw it back into the lake. But I loved exploring the woods and getting into the mountains. Nearly twenty years went by before I started camping again in 1994, and even then it was only sporadic, as marriage, working full-time, and raising stepchildren kept me busy. Eventually, I made the outdoors more of a priority in my life. This website chronicles my adventures for the last thirty years, starting with the most recent journeys below and going back into time from there.
